About Emma Henderson – Whole-Child Development & Wellbeing Practitioner, Hamilton NZ

I am a Whole-Child Development & Wellbeing Practitioner working with children and families experiencing challenges with sleep, behaviour, regulation, and overall wellbeing.

My work is grounded in the understanding that a child’s behaviour or symptoms are often expressions of underlying developmental, physiological, or regulatory needs—not isolated issues to be managed in isolation.

Through a structured, whole-child approach, I support families in identifying these underlying patterns and creating meaningful, sustainable change.

🌿 My Approach

At the centre of my practice is the S.E.N.S.E Framework—a structured model supporting regulation, development, and long-term wellbeing across five key areas of function.

It provides a way to look beyond symptoms and understand what is happening within the child’s system as a whole.

This work has been shaped through supporting children and families navigating complex, ongoing challenges where traditional pathways have often provided limited answers.

The focus is on clarity, structure, and restoring function from the inside out.

The S.E.N.S.E Framework

All consultations are guided by the S.E.N.S.E Framework™, a structured clinical model used to assess key areas of child health:

  • Sleep regulation

  • Emotional regulation

  • Nutrition and gut health

  • Sensory environment

  • Energy and breathing patterns

This framework provides a consistent and comprehensive way to understand how different systems influence each other, particularly in children experiencing complex or ongoing symptoms.

Why I do this work

Through both professional training and clinical experience, I have seen how often children’s symptoms are misunderstood or addressed in isolation.

Many families come in having tried multiple approaches, yet still feel unsure why their child is struggling.

This work focuses on stepping back, understanding the full picture, and supporting children in a more integrated and structured way.

Training & Approach

My work draws on a combination of clinical training and integrative frameworks that support a systems-based understanding of child health and development.

This includes naturopathic and functional medicine principles, alongside specialised approaches focused on neurodevelopment, primitive reflex integration, neurological regulation, oral and breathing function, and sensory processing.

Rather than applying a single modality, these approaches are integrated to assess how multiple systems interact — particularly in children presenting with sleep disturbances, behavioural dysregulation, digestive concerns, sensory sensitivities, or developmental differences.

A key part of this work involves understanding how early neurodevelopmental patterns, including retained primitive reflexes, may influence regulation, coordination, behaviour, and overall function.

This layered and structured approach allows for a more tailored, developmentally appropriate understanding of each child, supporting clearer insight into the underlying patterns contributing to their symptoms.

Approaches incorporated within this work include functional medicine, neurodevelopmental support, neurological integration systems (NIS), myofunctional therapy, and auditory-based integration methods

Support for Families

Alongside child-focused care, I also offer dedicated support sessions for mothers experiencing stress, overwhelm, and capacity challenges.

These sessions are structured separately to ensure focused, individualised support.

How I work

I work with a small number of families each week to ensure each child and parent receives in-depth, structured care.

Due to limited clinic availability, all appointments are managed via a waitlist system.
